Intuition 101: Journaling to Wisdom

journal-1-of-1Journaling is one of the ways that I can easily tap into my intuition.  Ever since I went through The Artists Way many years ago I have been using this medium to access my Inner Guidance.

In this book, the author, Julia Cameron recommends that every morning to write three long-hand pages of stream of consciousness.  Whatever is jumbled up in your head write it out.  I find that by page two or three the garbage has spewed out onto the pages and I can then ask questions to my Inner Guidance System.

This is also called automatic writing.  I ask the question and then begin writing whatever flows through me.  For instance, this morning I heard the message, “You’ve got this!”  I’ve asked questions about diet, exercise and of course men and always received a message that may not have been what I wanted to hear but always what I needed to.  Each time the information that comes through sounds like a voice other than my own.  I hear the words and put down on the page what comes through.  Sometimes I think I am making it all up but that doesn’t really matter.  The information that comes through is always spot on.

Some automatic writers seem to have the pen move across the page of their own accord.  Whether you hear a voice like I do or your pen glides across the page I invite you to experiment and give it a try.

Have you ever tried this exercise before?  If so, share your experiences with others here.

Book Recommendation:  Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch.  The entire book was written through the process of automatic writing.

Intuition 101: You Gotta Breathe!

breath

In the beginning was the breath. The Breathe of Life breathed us into being. It is through the breath that we access our intuition. It is through the breath that we remember our connection to Source Energy.

A long deep breath cleanses the body and calms the mind. It brings us into stillness where we can listen to the voice of our Higher Wisdom.

Try it with me now. Inhale slowly and deeply. Now exhale completely. And, once again. Inhale. And, exhale. Notice how everything slows down. The anxiety leaves. The worry melts away. If you don’t feel lighter, keep breathing until you do.

Now ask a question to your Higher Self. Maybe it’s a simple question about general guidance for the day. Perhaps its as serious as “Is it in my highest good to stay in this marriage?” Now, breathe again slowly and deeply. Breathing will help you stay connected and grounded as the answer emerges.

How The Answers Come

In my experience, the answers to my questions don’t always come right away. They may show up in the early morning hours before I get out of bed. I may hear an internal voice that guides my way, or a friend will say something that resonates within me. I have even received answers while reading a book.  My most significant indicator is my body. I may sense the answer to my question, and then I will get an overall feeling of rightness in my body that solidifies the guidance I am receiving. I feel it to my bones, so to speak.

I would love to hear how Guidance speaks to you.  Leave your comments below.

Intuition 101: What Your Dreams May Be Telling You

dream-interpretation-certificateDreams can be a helpful tool to help us find insights into the hidden parts of ourselves. Not every dream has an important message. Some dreams are garbage dreams. Our unconscious mind may simply be processing and releasing the events of the day.  Some dreams are prophetic. These dreams feel different than ordinary dreams. They tell us about something that is happening on the astral plane, which may manifest on the physical plane soon. Some dreams are visitations from loved ones who have crossed over. These ones are reminders that even though a loved one has departed, they are still with us.  Whatever kind of dream you may be having, they can be a useful means for understanding ourselves more completely.
Recently I had a dream I was working for a company, and as a gift for my service, they bought me a pink pair of hiking boots. For some reason, people were moving out, and they accidentally picked up my boots and put them into their moving truck. I was frantic to get them back.   When I asked to get the boots back they were buried so deeply in the moving truck they couldn’t get to them. Eventually, I did get the boots back, but someone had planted flowers in them. I remember feeling upset by this, and then I woke up.
308aa7f6dc3709ea785cd526abdd1fb4This dream stood out because the hiking boots were pink, and they played such a significant role in the dream. Pink to me stands for unconditional love and self-acceptance. We wear boots on our feet, and they help us walk comfortably on the Earth. You could say that in this dream, the boots symbolize my connection to the Earth and my relationship to myself. For awhile in the dream, I lost the boots. Was the dream telling me that I have lost my connection to the Earth and therefore myself? Later in the dream, the boots are returned to me, but there are flowers planted in them. I clearly didn’t understand that the flowers were another gift. Flowers can represent many things. For example, it could mean new growth. Or, they could be telling me to stop and smell the roses. My interpretation of the flowers planted in the boots is this. I am slowly beginning to love and accept myself more every day (being gifted the pink boots). I’m just not always able to appreciate myself as much as I could (not understanding the gift of the flower). So the dream is telling me I am making progress in the self-love department, but I don’t always see it.
Do you have a dream you could use some insight into? Send me your dream, and I will happily interpret it for you.

Intuition 101: Practicing Presence

Folding-LaundryFolding laundry is my least favorite domestic chore. I usually call a friend while I fold and put everything away or listen to a podcast — anything to distract me from the task at hand.

Today I took a different approach. I decided to be present for the experience. As I lifted each item of laundry out of the basket, I felt the texture and the heat of each piece. I was aware of how jeans hold heat more intensely than a sock. I noticed how washcloths are rough, and napkins are smooth. And the smell of fresh laundry is a delight.

Instead of being a “chore” it was a joy-filled experience. Now, to take that presence into other areas of my life.
