Questioning God

Creation_of_the_Sun_and_Moon_face_detailI write a bi-weekly newsletter sharing with my subscribers any updates I may have to classes or workshops.  I also tend to share personal stories in these newsletters in hopes that it will be valuable to readers.  When we share experiences with one another we can know that we are not out there all alone going through what ever it is we all seem to be going through these days.  Over the past two newsletters I’ve shared my dark night of the soul and my questions around what I believe about God.

There always seem be one or two people who unsubscribe after every newsletter I send out. That is pretty normal considering I do the same thing if I’m feeling overwhelmed with what people are sending me.  This last newsletter was different.  That number hit 5 within a 24 hour period.  When you have only 500 newsletter subscribers and 5 people jump ship that gets your attention.

Why was this newsletter so special?  I can only surmise that it had to do with my shifting beliefs around god. Also, I did have one emailer tell me exactly that.

We are taught not to question the Divine.  There are stories in many religious texts about what happens when we question god.  We get punished.  As I have processed my shifting beliefs I have shared all this with my boyfriend.  He had been through his own journey many years before and knew exactly what I was going through.  He even understood why I would grieve this lost belief system.

He shared with me that when he had questions around his own beliefs he asked himself why would God take those questions so personally if what God believed about God was true?   If God is this all loving, all-knowing, all-seeing Be-Ing why would that Being feel bad or get angry about being questioned?  He also said that Truth does not need to be defended.  If something is true for you why are you upset when those Truths are questioned?  Because there is a part of us that doesn’t believe them.

This is really where my journey begins.  The unraveling of belief systems is only the preparation for my walk in my Truth.  As I’ve mentioned in my newsletters I do not know where it will lead me.  That part excites me.  The not knowing.  I have to say my questions have brought me to a deeper sense of Connectedness.  Instead of taking me further away from Spirit/Beingness/Oneness (take your pick) it has brought me closer.  That is the point of asking questions.  To bring one closer to their truth.

As with anything I write or say take what you need and leave the rest.  I have no desire to change how you think or feel about god.  I am simply sharing my journey.  We are each drops of water in the sea of Belief.  Taking one drop out does not change the Sea.  When many drops are taken out . . . . everything, entire belief systems are changed.
