Meditation Monday’s: Heart Beat Meditation

Welcome to Meditation Monday’s!  Each Monday I will create a new video for you to meditate with.  I draw from many different meditation technologies to bring you a variety of breath, mudra, guided and kundalini yoga meditations.   This first in the series is adapted from the Kundalini Yoga tradition.  Enjoy!

Surrender

surrender_balloonDefinition – to cease resistance.

I have been contemplating surrender for several days now.  Every time I feel like I am ready to surrender I pause.  I pause because surrender always meant giving my power away to some nameless, faceless being.  Don’t get me wrong.  I am a believer in a power greater than myself.  But the idea of surrendering to that power is something I find myself reluctant to do.

After many nights of reflecting on the word, I realized I don’t need to surrender to some being.  I just need to surrender.  It’s the act of surrender that is important here and not the who or what I am surrendering to.

As I write this I can feel my body and mind easing into surrender.  I know this is not a one time deal.  It is a practice just like anything else I want to commit to in my life.

Word of The Day: Obedience

What-Does-Loving-Yourself-Mean--760x428Word of The Day:  Obedience

Definition – Compliance with a command or law; submission to authority; performing that which is required.

I immediately got rankled when I heard that obedience was the word of the day.  Obviously, I have some resistance here.  Once I calmed down I realized my guides were saying this word is about obeying the heart and not any kind of external submission to man.

guru-pranamMy heart always knows the truth.  It’s getting out of my head and into my heart that is the challange.  There is a meditation in Kundalini Yoga called Guru Pranam.  The idea is to bow down in childs pose with your hands above your head into prayer pose.  This raises your heart above your head.  The breathing automatically becomes long and deep.  This pose is an easy way to get out of your head and listen to the wisdom of the heart.  I invite you to try it.

Word of The Day: Inhabit

Definition – (of a person, animal, or group) live in or occupy (a place or environment).

As I was practicing my yoga this morning I was thinking about how much I admired people who fully inhabited their body.  I am not one of those people.  As an empath, I feel everything.  I am very sensitive to pain, mine, and other peoples.  As such, I am not very present in my body.

When I looked up the definition of the word today I was struck by the fact that inhabit is a verb, an action word.  To inhabit one’s body is an active state of being.  I asked Guidance how do I learn to inhabit my body.  I was told to breathe long and deep.  You have to be fully in your body to breathe long and deep.  You just can’t do it otherwise.  That is my practice for today.  Breathe.  Inhale and exhale.  Long and slow.

Word of The Day: Flexibility

Flexible-e1484041262552Definition – springy or yielding to influence; readily changing; adaptable, pliable.

I recently moved back to the Twin Cities and am juggling three part-time jobs and looking to include a fourth teaching yoga.  As long as I go with the flow I know this can all unfold with grace and ease.   If I get caught up in my mind, which is easy to do, not only does my body get tight and rigid but my experiences do to.  Here’s to going with the flow and being flexible!

Void of Course

shutterstock_82960696-810x540Bat came to me again last night reminding me to prepare for some significant changes.   I have no idea what those changes are or when they are going to occur.  I awoke this morning feeling as if I am neither moving forward nor going in any discernible direction at all but still knowing that change was upon me.  I actually said to myself that I feel as if my life is void of course right now.

When the moon is void of course in astrology it means that it makes no more major aspects to other planets before it leaves a sign.  The moon usually travels through a sign every 2.5 days.  When the moon is void it feels as if nothing is moving in our lives.  There are no other energies around the moon to influence it.  Things are quiet.  As I write this the Moon is void of course.  I had no idea until I looked it up.  If you are like me and feel things on an energetic level it can almost feel depressing or even hopeless when this void occurs.

It is easy to spiral down into our shadow and think that something inside us is very wrong.  It’s important to be still and breathe during these times.  That is what Guidance recommended to me today during my yoga practice.   And, of course, to write this. . .
